The Shield casing is designed for poorer quality and unpaved surfaces, but the smooth centreline of the tread provides lower rolling resistance even when riding on the road. The tread is fitted with an integrated (Clever Face) wear identifier that alerts the cyclist to the degree of tread wear with a smiley-shaped mouth. Some tires are manufactured with additional protective and safety features.
